Tri-M Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded through an application process, with several questions asking for detailed responses, and an essay. The entire music department faculty and Tri-M advisors meet to evaluate the applications and choose a recipient. The panel takes into account all the qualifications that represent the standards of Tri-M, including: Character, Service, Academics, Musicianship, and Leadership.
The 2019 recipient is Austin Hunt.
Austin has participated in music, key club, young democrats, science olympiad, sports, and student council, in addition to working a job. In addition, he was a member of the Teen Advisory Board at the Library, and a mentor at Maple Grove. He held leadership positions in music and in clubs as Section Leader, President, and Secretary. Austin has volunteered with Al Van Humane Society, Light up the Night, The Blueberry Festival, Key Club, and Lincoln Elementary.
In music, Austin has put in countless hours of practice to become a leader and a soloist. He has been involved as a wind player in band, full orchestra, pit orchestra, honors band, solo and ensemble, percussion ensembles, and more.
Austin is now attending Michigan State University to study Astrophysics. When asked why he has continued to value and participate in music, he ended a very detailed response with the following,
“Music has challenged, changed, and affected me in so many ways I possibly could not imagine. Crying at the last football game, something I never do, is the reason why I have continued to value and participate in music and why I plan to in college and life after. It has changed me as a person for the better and I never want to lose that.”
